Keep on Digging

By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land. (Exo 23:30)

After all the years of slavery; now Israel was in the Land of Promise that they had dreamed of for so long. Little did they realize then as they did now; the land that was flowing with milk and honey was also inhabited by giants! The obstacles that Israel faced as they considered claiming the land God had promised them must have seemed impossible. But here is the key: The Lord didn't ask them to do it all at once.

When we are confronted with challenges that seem to be impossible we must learn to rely on God’s promise of victory ! The Lord will enable his people to lay hold on the victory they seek; even though it seems so far away. How? you ask. The answer is " Little by Little".

There is a story that has been told of a little boy with a small shovel. He was trying to clear a pathway through deep, new-fallen snow in front of his house. A man paused to observe the child's enormous task.

"Little boy," he inquired, "how can someone as small as you expect to finish a job as big as this?" The boy looked up and replied confidently, "Little by little, that's how!" And he continued shoveling.

Perhaps the question will be asked of you; "How can someone as inadequate as you expect to surmount so great a mountain as this?" Let that little boy's reply become your reply: "Little by little, that's how!" And you will overcome--by depending on God. But it will be one small victory after another.

"Little by little" is an effective strategy for victory.

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)

He does not lead me year by year,
Not even day by day;
But step by step my path unfolds--
My Lord directs my way. --Ryberg

Trust God to move your mountain, but keep on digging.
