Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit
What is the largest living thing in the world?
One claim comes from a group of Scientists at the University of Colorado;
they believe that the largest living thing in the world is found in the state of
Colorado.
The Scientists believe that a 106-acre stand of Quaking Aspen trees
are all basically the same tree, growing out of one single set of roots. If they
are right, that makes the stand, collectively weighing over 6,000 tons, the
largest single organism in the world.
That's amazing! All of those trees are the product of a single root. Many
trees, one root . . . Now in a way we are a part of the largest single living
thing in the world. Not aspen trees … but the Family of God!
There
is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one
faith, one baptism, One God and Father of
all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
(Eph 4:4-6)
The Scripture here is talking about the family of God. There are many
people who have went to the cross for forgiveness - one cross, the same empty
tomb - for Eternal Life. They have been saved just like the Bible says; “One
Lord, one faith, one baptism” and even though they are different
and sometimes even difficult, every true believer comes from that single root,
Jesus Christ - all going to the same Heaven.
Ephesians 4:3,
says we've got to act like we are one. It says this, “Endeavoring
to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
You see unity isn’t the natural state of Christians. Christians working
and staying together isn’t something we achieve, it's something we preserve,
that's the way Jesus has set it up. And
you'd better believe our enemy is doing everything he can to put walls and hard
feelings and hostility between us. Why? Well, first of all it breaks the heart
of our Savior when His people don't love each other. Secondly, because Satan
understands the great potential in the power of Christians standing together.
(Phil
1:27) Only let your conversation be
as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be
absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye STAND
FAST IN ONE SPIRIT, WITH ONE MIND STRIVING TOGETHER FOR THE FAITH OF THE GOSPEL;
Keeping all of us “one” is hard work. The Bible says we are to,
"Make every effort." We have to put a lot of energy into it
because our egos tear us apart as well as our differences, our jealousies, and
our enemy the devil; who is always trying to get a wedge in.
Has he been succeeding in your relationships, or your church? Well don't
let it stay that way! Is there any brother or sister you have a problem with, or
who has a problem with you? We need to make every effort to bridge the gap by
putting a lot of effort in keeping the unity that God expects from His children.
I'm not sure about that Aspen stand being the largest single living thing
in the world. And we know that the church of Jesus Christ isn't a thing … but
it should be the largest single living organism in the world with all our roots
going back to an old rugged cross, and empty tomb, and a one Savior. Jesus
Christ the Lord!
Lord,
make us One…
